Also consider wether flash is part of the equation and which f stop you would actually use.

You would then pump iso or use the 35 for indoor group shots.

Then you will get f2.8 plus a lot more telerange that is critical for events like weddings imho. I would consider adding the Tamron 70-180. Now what would do you think about this combo? Hence the idea to trade in the Sony for the Sigma. Thus, I'd not want to miss the reach beyond 70mm, but would also like my kit to be as versatile as possible. Since I am aware of the difference in focal lengths between the Sigma and the Sony and how drastically 35mm can change the composition I'm also planning to purchase the 70-200 F4 because a lot of my tele shots were above 70mm according to Lightroom.

Apart from the higher sharpness it has a full stop advantage compared to the 24-105mm which I believe is beneficial for everything else apart from landscape and would open more doors for me. After doing the brick wall test it became apparent that the Sigma is sharper across almost all focal ranges, though this is only noticeable when cropping in - so unsure if this is going to make a significant difference in real word circumstances. This led me to the idea to purchase the new Sigma 24-70 2.8 and to eventually replace my 24-105 F4. While I'd say that my main focus relies on travel photography where landscape plays a huge role and also occasional portraiture, I've also been asked many times to do some event photography such as engagement shootings, weddings, gatherings, etc but most of the time I rejected those requests because I didn't feel comfortable with it due to believing my gear was not really suited for this. I went last year on a road trip around the West Coast and used this combination quite successfully. Or would you simply stay with the 24-105 F4 and add the 70-200 F4 for more reach because F4 is sufficient for the aforementioned purposes? The 100-400 is out of question for me because it is too big and heavy.īottom line: I'm afraid that I'll regret going for the Sigma for the advantage in F Stop by ditching the convenience of the 24-105mm, but at the same time I also think that my kit will improve by going with the Sigma thereby opening new doors for me.

  • Sony 70-200 F4 for events and landscape to compensate for the reach of 24-105 F4.

  • Sony 24-105 F4 (until now glued on my camera).
  • Tamron 17-28 2.8 (when I need wider than 24 and also used for Astrophotography/Northern Lights).
  • I'm currently debating which lenses to keep and need your help on deciding.
